Shivnath Chowdhury a middle aged man who is married to Leela devi ,a Daughter of late Zamindar had great interest in folk music. He used to collect folk rhythms from Baiju. Baiju lived in the old village. Leela Devi did not like her husband to have any relation with the commoners. Out of anger Leela Devi puts baiju's village on fire and her Munim kiddnaps baiju's daughter Rukmini. In his attempt to rescue the poor girl ,Shivnath killed Munim. Shivnath was imprisoned for fourteen years.

Leela Devi with her daughter moves to the city accompanied by her cousin Mohan. Day's passed , Leela Devi died and her daughter Neena grows up. She was told that her father had become a sadhu. Meanwhile in the jail, a new doctor takes good care of Shivnath. Shivnath learns that his daughter Neena is friendly to the doctor and, that they were going to get Married soon.
