Karan, deserted by his parents when he was three years old, has been brought up in an orphanage run by John Kakkad. The boys in the orphanage hope that one day they would be able to escape the tyranny of John. One day, Karan finds a cricket bat among the gifts left by visitors. The bat has the initials ‘KD’ and the number ‘83’ engraved on the handle. He assumes that the initial stands for Kapil Dev and the bat to be the one the star cricketer used in the 1983 World Cup match. Karan hits sixers with the bat when he plays cricket with his friends.
One day, Indian cricket coach, who is disillusioned with Team India, spots young Karan and he includes him in his team for its crucial match against Pakistan. The members of the team, including captain Varun, are baffled at the coach’s choice, as Karan is only 13 years old. But Karan, partnering with Varun to open the match, gives the Pakistani team a good drubbing by hitting sixers and fours with his magic bat. Jealous at Karan’s sudden fame, the bully in the orphange, Raghav breaks the bat.
