Chandni (Urmila Matondkar) is a nightclub dancer who struggles through her existence with the fond hope that some day a knight in shining armour will come into her life and take her away from the non-so-respectful profession which circumstances have forced her into. Her knight-in-shining-armour arrives in the form of Rahul (Salman Khan), the most eligible bachelor of the town. Rahul is stunned when he realizes that Chandni is no pushover. Her steely character becomes a challenge to him. He marries her but things don't work out. However a chance meeting of Chandni with Rahul’s grandfather changes Chandni’s life. Rahul is forced to admit to him that he married Chandni and he accepts her as his ideal daughter-in-law. Chandni wins over his grandfather’s heart and he imposes his faith in her by handing over his entire wealth to her.

Chandni becomes a thorn in the side of Rahul's friends Harry and Monica...both of whom hope to get their hands on Rahul's wealth. Chandni sets out to prove her worth to Rahul.
